Yesterday, the easys GNU/Linux team announced the release and immediate availability of the latest version of their Linux distribution. easys GNU/Linux 4.2 comes with certain additions, such as the latest version of KDE (4.1.1), thus benefiting from QT 4's eye-candy. However, applications specific to QT3/KDE3 can still be launched by using a compatible library.

This release also includes the latest version of the popular Firefox web browser (3.0.1) and the KOffice suite, which replaced the previous Softmaker Office. This brings new and improved functionality for small office/home office users, such as a program for creating presentations.

Along with this version, the YaLI installation environment and the ALICE system management framework have been enhanced for better usage, the latter being updated to its 0.9.17 version. easys GNU/Linux maintains a complete Slackware 12.1 compatibility, and can also be easily extended by using either the popular Slackaware pkgtools or the more user-friendly 'pkgmanager'.

About easys GNU/Linux

easys is a modern Desktop OS that features several new concepts and enhancements allowing you manage your tasks more efficiently. It has a simple to use installer that guides you through the entire installation process, so you can enjoy the system's functionality as soon as possible and without any install issues.

A very popular desktop environment is included, especially customized for a better user experience. Right after the install, easys tries to offer more specialized, single-purpose tools, rather than lots of similar utilities that can cause some confusion, particularly among inexperienced users.

easys is based on the well-known Slackware Linux, one of the oldest, yet still active distributions, highly regarded mostly for qualities such as long time security support, stability, ease of use and maintenance and last, but certainly not least, versatility and speed.
