Carsten Schöne announced today the latest release of StressLinux, version 0.5.113, which fixes the Memtest entry of the boot menu. StressLinux 0.5.113 is based on the OpenSuSE 11.2 Linux distribution and includes now the mprime application that allows users to calculate Mersenne primes. "This small release fixes the memtest entry on boot and adds mprime to the distribution," Carsten Schöne said in the official release announcement.

StressLinux is a Live Linux distribution that can run from CD, USB, VMWare or even via PXE (wip). It bundles a big number of applications aimed at testing various components of your personal computer or server, as well as the network connection. StressLinux subjects the CPU or other components to a high computational load while enabling users to monitor the temperature and the stability of the system. StressLinux is an operating system recommended especially to system builders, administrators and overclocking enthusiasts, those who want to push their computers to the max.

Because StressLinux doesn’t come with any desktop environment or other graphical user interface, users should be comfortable or at least familiar with the Linux console. Since the distribution has a very pure purpose, all you really need to know is how to launch the various utilities included.

StressLinux's username and password are both 'stress.' The root password is 'stresslinux.'
