The Lunar Linux development team proudly announced two days ago, on December 27th, the immediate availability of the Lunar Linux 1.6.4, dubbed Lacus Autumni. This new release of Lunar Linux was developed for about two years, it is more polished, faster, and it is now powered by Linux kernel 2.6.27.10. Moreover, the isolinux was updated, all the modules were refreshed, the installer was greatly improved and it is now able to skip the "swap file" step if a SWAP partition was already added, lsb-release was added and, sadly, the support for USB modems was removed, because they need firmware images that the Lunar Linux team doesn't supply.

"After almost two years since the last stable release it's finally here, Lunar Linux 1.6.4. We've reached a new milestone, 1.6.4 is our most polished release to date. Our hope is that everyone will enjoy it as much as we've done making it. The effort of improving our installer and iso will of course continue. Stay tuned next year for some exciting new features that are in store for Lunar! We would like to wish everyone a happy new year!" - said the Lunar team in the official release announcement.

Highlights of Lunar Linux 1.6.4:

· Linux kernel 2.6.27 · Software RAID configuration · Better language selection · Installable from USB or other removable media · Support for XFS, ReiserFS and JFS file systems

Lunar is a Linux distribution built from source packages, kinda like Gentoo Linux. Therefore, a Lunar Linux installation can take a while, because every package, or module, is built from sources. Lunar Linux 1.6.4 is available as a freely downloadable ISO image for the i686 and x86_64 architectures.  Download Lunar Linux 1.6.4 right now from Softpedia.
