CodeWeavers' CEO, Jeremy White, announced a few minutes ago the availability of the CrossOver 9.0 application for both Linux and Macintosh operating systems. Dubbed Snow Mallard, the new CrossOver 9.0.0 release has a brand-new user interface for Linux users! This new GTK2-compatible graphical user interface is a dream come true, expected by all CrossOver Linux users (take a look at the image for details).

Moreover, CrossOver 9.0.0 brings various improvements to Microsoft applications, such as Internet Explorer 7 or the Microsoft Office suite. CodeWeavers distributes the CrossOver 9.0.0 binaries for the Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, Fedora, Mandriva and openSUSE operating systems, as well as a universal installer for other Linux flavors.

"This release, code named 'Snow Mallard,' is the first major overhaul of CrossOver since version 1.0. It includes a completely new user interface for Linux and a revamped user interface for the Mac, which should make everything faster and more intuitive." Jeremy White says in the official release announcement.

Highlights of CrossOver 9.0.0:

· Brand-new user interface;
· Completely redesigned install process for all apps;
· Improvements to Internet Explorer 7;
· Improvements to Microsoft Office (especially macros support in Excel and clipart support in Word);
· Improved the stability of Microsoft Outlook;
· Manipulation times and bottle creation are now faster;
· Initial support for Quicken 2010;
· Based on Wine 1.1.34;
· Added 'C4 Profiles' to the application installation process, which allows users to extend its functionality.

"Further, this release includes over a year's work on Wine (over 7,500 individual patches), so you'll find a wide variety of other miscellaneous fixes and improvements. [...] Thanks again for all your support, and I hope that you enjoy CrossOver 9!", Jeremy White adds in the press release.

CrossOver is a commercial piece of software that lets Linux and Mac OS users install popular Microsoft Windows applications and games.
