When it comes down to choosing a high quality audio card, Auzentech is one of the few names that actually makes it to the list, the company just revealing the second generation of the X-Meridian 7.1 sound card has become available for purchase, boasting the same impressive sound that made the first iteration of this card a success.
Made public for the very first time all the way back in July 2010, the
X-Meridian 7.1 2G certainly took its time before reaching retail stores, Auzentech initially claiming the 2G will be available in August.
However, like many other
Auzentech cards before it, the X-Meridian 7.1 2G had to wait until December to be released, although the company maintained the $159.99 price tag that was first announced with the card.
But moving back to the actual card, the X-Meridian line is based on the C-Media CMI8788 Oxygen HD PCI audio processor, detaching itself from other company products that make use of Creative's X-Fi chipset.
As a result, the X-Meridian line can offer an impressive
sound quality, the 2G versions maintaining the C-Media based chip and pairing it with a new Advanced Driver Software Architecture (ADSA) that includes Dolby Digital Live encoding, DTS Connect and the Xear3D sound technology, to name just a few.
Furthermore, just as in the original X-Meridian, the 2G features swappable OPAMPs, gold plated PCB, jacks and metal bracket, 24bit/192kHz high definition 7.1 channel analog playback, a 120dB dynamic range and 115dB signal-to-noise ratio.
Bundled together with two 3.5mm miniplug-TOSLINK adapters and a 3m TOSLINK fiber optic digital cable, the X-Meridian 7.1 2G is available right now from NCIX, Canada Computers, Memory Express and various other online stores as well as through its product page on the Auzentech website for $159.99.
At his price point, the X-Meridian is a great option for whoever in interested in buying a top-notch audio solution as long as gaming isn't that high on their priority list.
