It will be available in a few days, for a steep £400 / $615 / €463

Standalone cameras haven't really been sold much. Companies and consumers alike have been gravitating towards head-mounted displays and the like, assuming they don't prefer their smartphones instead.

That's why devices like the Autographer aren't very often found on sale.

Still, it might catch on with some people. After all, there's a certain charm in clipping the camera to your belt or shirt pocket, or hanging it around your neck and forgetting about it.

It might qualify as rude, since people might not want to be recorded. Consent is a big issue these days, especially with Google Glass coming.

Still, having a hands-off camera during a hiking trip could come in handy, hence the Autographer's creation.

Described as the world's first intelligent wearable camera, it acts best as an addition to a smartphone or standalone camera. An app is already available for iOS (through iTunes), and Android will get its own version soon.

“For the past six months we have undertaken extensive beta testing and sought feedback to ensure that Autographer delivers all it was originally intended to and more,” said Simon Randall, head of OMG Life.

“We've made valuable improvements to Autographer, including greater control of image capture frequency, improved functionality, the option to take pictures manually and an indicator displaying when images are captured.”

The camera has a 5-megapixel sensor, glass hybrid wide-angle precision optics with 136-degree field of view, an OLED display, 8 GB of internal memory, Bluetooth, and fixed focus.

It will start selling on July 30 for £400 / $615 / €463. Those are the exchange rates though. If we're lucky, the prices in the US and EU will be closer to $400 and €400 instead.

Initially, though, only UK customers will have access to it, so the prices in dollars and Euro don't mean much at this stage. Hopefully, it won't be too long before a worldwide release.
