Autodesk has recently announced that it has introduced its popular SketchBook Pro application for Android devices.

Along with the expansion of the popular SketchBook Pro color palette with Copic markers, Autodesk has announced the availability of the Android version of the application.

However, the application was optimized to work on Honeycomb tablets and other large-screened devices operating Google's operating system, thus owners of Android smartphones or Gingerbread tablets will not be able to install SketchBook Pro for Android.

Furthermore, the application allows users to take advantage of powerful sketching tools to create quick informal sketches or produce artwork while on the go, all from the large screen of a tablet

SketchBook Pro for Android uses the same paint engine as its desktop counterparts and delivers the powerful toolset and streamlined user interface that has become so popular.

Autodesk SketchBook Pro for Android is the latest Autodesk app to support the popular mobile operating system following Autodesk SketchBook Mobile, which has been available for the Android platform since November 2010, and the AutoCAD WS for Android app, which launched in April.

Although Autodesk SketchBook Pro for Android is a professional-grade paint and drawing application, optimized specifically for Honeycomb tablet devices, it appears that for the average users this is not really worth the money.

Obviously, the more 'professional' version brings several nice additions in comparison with the SketchBook Mobile, these will hardly be used by non-professional illustrators.

It is also worth mentioning that Autodesk SketchBook Pro for Android is far more responsive than the SketchBook Mobile version, and less frustrating to use.

Autodesk SketchBook Pro is now available for download from Android Market for $4.99 and is compatible with all devices (tablets) running Android 3.0 and above.

Additionally, Autodesk SketchBook Express is also available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with all smartphones running Android 2.1 or higher.
