AutoCAD WS Coming to Android Devices Next Week

Autodesk, the company behind the AutoCAD design software, has recently announced that the mobile version of the AutoCAD WS for Android will hit the Android Market on April 20th.

The mobile app will be available as a free download and will use cloud computing technology to allow Autodesk software users to view, edit and share their designs through web browsers and mobile devices.

“Architects, engineers and designers have clearly communicated that they want access to their AutoCAD projects on their Android devices and we are more than happy to meet their needs," said Tal Weiss, AutoCAD WS software development manager, Autodesk.

"The impressive and consistent growth of the Android ecosystem serves as an excellent platform for Autodesk to further expand its accessibility through AutoCAD WS,” Weiss concluded.

One of the highlights of the Android version of AutoCAD WS is the text annotation tool that supports integrated voice commands.

Basically, this enables users to insert comments on a drawing simply by speaking instead of typing them into the text edit box.

However, the unique feature is only available on devices running Android 2.2 or newer.

With the upcoming AutoCAD WS for Android, users will be able to collaborate with architects, designers and engineers from anywhere in the world. The application allows users to take designs with them anywhere they go as well.

The application offers users the possibility to open drawings from email attachments, sync files from the web, or even upload drawings directly from AutoCAD software through the integrated online tab.

Using the “Plot to PDF” feature, users can publish their DWG drawing to PDF. This feature is available on both desktop and Android versions of the AutoCAD software.

In addition to the AutoCAD WS cloud, the app can also connect directly to alternate storage folders from any other Android, iPad and iPhone devices, as well as through the AutoCAD WS web application.
