Mobile phones have become a pretty important part of our lives in the past few years. But it looks like the ones who are the most addicted to using a cell phone are the people from Australia.

A study conducted by the Queensland University of technology revealed that users from Australia are increasingly addicted to their mobile phones and would go as far as to risk ruining relationships, running up large debts or even putting themselves in physical danger just for the sake of their cells.

Apparently, one in five users are practically slaves to their mobile phones and declared that they have less time to work, sleep or socialize because of the time that they spend to use their handsets.

Furthermore, some people declared that they preferred to stay without food or clothes just to buy phone credit, fearing that they would miss out on important events.

They also said that they felt exhausted by the constant ringing or anxious when they didn't receive calls or texts. While this is understandable, you might be wondering how a mobile phone could endanger a person.

Well, quite a few people even tried hanging out of car windows or climbing up on unsafe places in order to try and get reception. Australians spend on average 1 hour a day talking on their mobile phone or sending messages and heavy users will spend up to $500 on phone bills with the biggest bill ever reported being $5200.

"It's pervasive, it's absolutely pervasive in our society and it's got a growing role. The technology is moving so fast that there's the challenge for us to keep up socially and we're yet to develop the skills to manage the technology to benefit us without having casualties along the way", one researcher commented.

The data obtained will be used to develop easy self diagnostic tests in order to make the public aware before the addiction is beyond control.
