A gold digger in Ballarat, Australia came across what is possibly the biggest find of his lifetime. He posted a clip of the massive nugget he came across, on YouTube.

According to The Courier, the prospector used a metal detector to search for gold in an undisclosed location. The lucky owner of the piece also wished to remain anonymous.

The gold nugget weighs 12 pounds (5.5 kg), and it was appraised at the Ballarat Mining Exchange Gold Shop at over $300,000 (€224,000).

"If you are silly enough to melt it down, it would be worth just under $300,000 (€224,000) on market value but as a nugget at this size and shape, it's worth significantly more than that," examiner and shop owner Cordell Kent told reporters.

This is the biggest piece to come out of Ballarat, possibly ever, and it was discovered just 60 cm (23.6 in) below ground.
