Australian mobile phone users should soon be able to purchase a nice range of new handsets that would run under Google's Android operating system, including devices coming from leading handset vendors like LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and others.

A roadmap of such devices, reportedly unveiling all of the Android phones that should make it to Australia between March and July, has just leaked into the wild, offering info on a number of no less than 12 smartphones headed for shelves in the first half of the year.

Apparently, the roadmap leaked from Brightpoint, one of the largest suppliers of telecommunication products in the Australia, and the supplier for all VHA stock in the country.

During March, Australians would receive some appealing devices, including a LG Optimus One (RRP: $399), or the Samsung Galaxy S (RRP: $549), which were already known to be headed for the local market.

Starting with April, however, newer devices are on their way to Australia, including the Alcatel OT980 (RRP: $249), Huawei U8500 (RRP: $249), LG Optimus Me (RRP: $249), Samsung Galaxy Fit (RRP: $349) and LG Optimus 2X (RRP: $599).

The first three of them are lower-end devices, with the Alcatel OT980 and Huawei U8500 running under Google's Android 2.1 platform.

Samsung Galaxy Fit is seen as a mid-range device, with a 3.3-inch touchscreen display, a 600MHz CPU, and Android 2.2 on board. LG Optimus 2X one the other hand, is the first Android smartphone to pack dual-core application processor.

Thee Android handsets should land in Australia in May, namely Motorola Defy (RRP: $549), Alcatel OT990 (RRP: $249) and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (RRP: $849).

The first of them might be released on shelves at Telstra and Optus, while Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is known to be on its way to Vodafone and Optus.

Next month should offer Australian users the possibility to purchase devices like the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY (RRP: $949) and Samsung Galaxy S II (RRP: $899).

These would be followed next month by the Alcatel OT908 (RRP: $99) and OT910 (RRP: $229), two full touch devices running under the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, and packing 600MHz CPUs.
