Australia is probably one of the largest countries that were by-passed in the Google expansion, but this land will become an important part of the company soon. Some time ago, the search giant started the Australian conquest with Google Maps and Google Earth by adding several high-quality photos with Sydney and other locations. Today, the Mountain View company makes one more step by releasing the Australian blog, a page able to keep the local customer up-to-date with latest news and headlines.

"We'll be using this blog to make announcements and share all kinds of information -- details of Google products and technology in Australia, partnerships with Australian businesses, our involvement in the Australian community, and inside info about Google in Australia. We're going to keep this page offbeat and informal and, hopefully, reader-friendly. A whole assortment of Aussie Googlers will be posting to the blog," Noel Gordon, Software Engineer (and co-creator of Google Maps), presented the new page.

At this time, Google provides quick access to numerous Australian resources designed by the company such as Google Maps, Google News or several jobs for the residents of the country. The Google Sydney office was opened 3 years ago and was especially meant to enhance the functionality of the advertising platform in the area.

As I said, Google managed to bring Australia in the spotlights using a Google Maps update that offered several high-resolution photos. At that time, the events were somehow damaging for the search giant's image. Let me present you the story: Google officially announced a special update scheduled for January 26, the national day of Australia. The search giant planned to fly over several cities and capture photos that will be then included in the satellite tool. Many of the country's residents were excited with the event and created huge banners to help them appear on Google Maps. However, the residents were there, but Google was unable to come as the authorities didn't allow the company to fly at a 600 meters altitude.
