When it was announced that a fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie was getting made, people immediately began speculating about the production details. A large portion of those speculations were linked to the location of the new movie.

Recently, it has revealed that the producers are eyeing Australia's Gold Coast as a possible location for the next film starring Johnny Depp, and now it's emerged that the Australian government is so keen on having the movie shot in their country that they are ready to offer significant incentives to Disney to make sure that the project stays on their shores.

Having the movie shot in Australia would be a huge boost to the local film industry, which is why they had the Australian Arts Minister George Brandis come out and say that “he government is pleased to agree to Disney's request to enable earlier funding to be repurposed for the production of Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Any decision to film productions in Australia (such as ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ or ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’) is a commercial matter for Disney.”

The sum of money is rumored to represent around 10% of the total estimated cost of the film, which isn't something to scoff at in the long run. However, insiders report that Disney is looking to get as much as 30% out of the total budget in incentives, which means that Australia has to throw a couple more tens of millions of dollars onto that pile to seal the deal.

If the deal with the Australian government falls through, the production team is ready to move back to American shores, in Hawaii, where the first movie in the franchise was also filmed. The movie “Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is going to start production next year and is set to be released in July 2017.
