Since the development of Blu-ray discs, the Korean company Samsung has been very busy in this field, launching quite a few interesting models (actually, according to its own statement, they were the first to bring a Blu-ray player on the US market). However, since first and second generation players are already old news, the company has just announced the development of two third generation Blu-ray compatible machines, the BD-P2400 and BD-P1400,
which will deliver certain features far superior to those of their predecessors.

Thus, as Gizmodo informs us, the new lineup provides users with 24 movie frames per second playback, thus allowing said movies to be played in their native format and reducing the possible undesired artifacts. Moreover, the players include advanced audio features, as for example advanced HD audio decoding, standard Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS audio playback, and both models support lossless formats including DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD.

Moreover, since both models have been fitted with HDMI 1.3 interfaces, they can also provide HDMI CEC (Anynet+) technology, allowing consumers to use a single remote control to operate the BD player, TV and other A/V products from Samsung. Additionally, each model is able to up-convert standard DVD discs to full HD 1080p resolution via the HDMI connection, thus allowing users to view older movies at the best possible quality.

The only major difference between the two models is related to the image processor. Thus, unlike the BD-P1400, the BD-P2400 features a built-in Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processor that enables true 1080i to 1080p HD de-interlacing.

The pair of third generation players from Samsung will hit the market in September/October, at an estimated price of $549 for the 1400 model and $599 for the 2400 model, which means that they'll have pretty much the same price tags as Samsung's current offering.
