Several months have past since Atomos rolled out a firmware update for its Ninja Blade recorder, and now the producer has made available the new 5.12 firmware version that adds support for Atomos HDMI Timecode Packets and brings many other changes.

Specifically speaking, the new release updates the recorder’s HDMI EDID information and adds compatibility with Samsung’s 840 EVO solid state drives (SSD).

In addition to that, version 5.12 also improves playback scrubbing performance for long clips and fixes the loop mode that wouldn’t work with different length audio and video files.

If you intend to make use of these changes, then save and unzip the downloadable package, copy the “ATOMNJB.FW” file onto a formatted USB stick or SD card, and insert it into the device while it’s powered off.

Now, simply turn the unit on to initiate the update process and allow the device to perform this task. Do not power off the recorder or remove the memory drive if flashing lines of colors appear on the display, as this is a normal behavior.

Upon completion, the Atomos unit will turn off automatically and you will have to remove the flash drive. Also, power the unit back on and check the currently installed firmware (Menu > Ninja Blade Info > AtomOS Version) to ensure the process has been successful.

That being said, download AtomOS Ninja Blade Recorder Firmware 5.12, apply it on your device, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about. Also, constantly check our website in order to stay “updated one minute ago.”
