Atlus has suggested that 2012 might be the year when the publisher finally announced Persona 5, the game that many fans assume will be the final one in the main continuity of the franchise.

The Shin Megami Tensei has been very successful for Atlus and fans have long been asking to get a new fully fledged game that takes advantage of the capabilities of the PlayStation 3 from Sony.

The most recent edition of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu features at announcement from Atlus saying, “That title you’ve been waiting for may be announced.”

Team Persona has recently launched Catherine on the PlayStation 3 and on the Xbox 360 in the United States and has since then been working full time on Persona 5.

The PlayStation Portable handheld is also set to soon get remakes of the first three games in the Persona series while the Vita will get a reimagined version of Persona 4, with a fighting spin-off called The Ultimate also in development.
