Gamers have to decide between white and black end states

Video game publisher Atlus has announced that it plans to hold a vote in order to decide the final World Tendency for its video game Demon’s Souls before the United States multiplayer servers are shut down for good on May 31 of this year.

In order to get a vote, players need to own the game and be part of the Atlus Faithful mailing list.

The first vote was already held and 62 percent of those playing Demon’s Souls have chosen to set the World Tendency towards white.

Another vote will be held on May 16 and will decide the final shift.

The World Tendency concept in Demon’s Souls influences the way the game presents itself to players and is, at the same time, shifted by the actions that each connected gamer takes in his own world.

When a player dies, the world moves towards black and a white shift is achieved when a boss is taken out of the game.

Special events appear when the World Tendency is very close to either extreme and the global variable also subtly influences the drift of the game in each player’s instance.

Demon’s Souls was created by From Software and was well known for the challenge it offered, so most players probably experienced a black world during their playthrough, which might explain why the community as a whole wants a white shift before the servers are closed down.

Demon’s Souls was launched exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in late 2009 and was highly praised by the hardcore community for its gameplay and setting.

From Software has created a spiritual sequel with Dark Souls, which was also initially launched on home consoles to rave reviews, again praising the difficulty level and the general world design.

The game is also set to arrive on the PC before the end of the year.
