Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari, thinks that Microsoft was wrong to believe that its fan base would accept the Digital Rights Management that was initially announced for the Xbox One home console.

He tells VG247 that, “They totally screwed it up. When I heard some of the announcements and the analysis of it, I’m shaking my head and saying, ‘What in the hell were they thinking?’ Of course that wasn’t going to go down well.”

The video game veteran believes that Microsoft was simply trying to take the Office rental system from the PC and move it into the home console space, trying to eliminate piracy and the second market to increase its own revenue stream.

After feedback form potential buyers, the company reversed its decision and said that the policy would be the same one currently active for the Xbox 360.
