Asustek has announced great plans for its laptop business this year. The company has decided to bring the big guns in and wants to make sure that this year's Consumer Electronics Show will be remembered
. The Taiwanese company is determined to unveil the praised Eee PC to feature WiMax and a 8.9-inch display, as well as the bigger and (of course) more expensive M70S notebook.
The major drawback when it comes to portable computing is lack of storage space. The models on the market are handicapped by small-sized hard-drives that can store a limited amount of multimedia files. Things are about to change with the arrival of the new M70S – the laptop that features 1 Terabyte of storage space.
The notebook primarily aims at mobile multimedia users, and
comes with dual 500GB drives from Hitachi. It is true that the laptop will carry the extra weigh of another 2.5-inch hard drive, but the good part is that the drives allow the user configure them as RAID devices, for either speed or data safety. The RAID 0 configuration distributes data over the two drives to provide a performance boost as compared to a single drive, while a RAID 1 configuration would mirror data on each drive and provide a handy copy, should a disaster occur.
Asustek's M70 standard notebook features a 17-inch widescreen display to basically support WXGA+ (1,440 by 900 pixels). While this model won't be able to display high definition content (1,920 by 1,080 pixels), other models can support the WUXGA (1,920 by 1,200 pixels) resolution, and the HD format. Additionally, the user can opt for a digital/analog TV tuner with video recording capability.
The notebook is powered by an Intel Core2 Duo processor, with multiple versions (T7700, 7500, 7300 or 7100), depending on the chosen model. It will also feature an ATI 3650 graphics card, built-in webcam, and 1GB of memory. As data security is concerned, the M70 comes with a fingerprint reader to ensure biometric authentication.
