Asus has decided to bring some of its high-end smartphones to India and the first to make its debut in the country is the Zenfone 5. The handset has been recently teased by major retailer Flipkart, which could mean only one thing: the Zenfone 5 will be exclusively available in India through this retailer.

According to Flipkart, which also put up a microwebsite for Asus Zenfone 5, the handset will be officially introduced in India on July 9.

Asus also confirmed that the smartphone will be available for purchase immediately after it gets launched in India, so customers will be able to get it beginning tomorrow.

Unfortunately, there are no details on the Zenfone 5’s price tag. We also don’t know whether or not Flipkart will also offer some promotional deals with the purchase of the smartphone.

However, we expect more details to be revealed the moment the Asus Zenfone 5 makes its debut on the market, so stay tuned for more on this one.

Specs-wise, the Zenfone 5 is a mid- to high-end Android smartphone, which might appease customers in India if priced accordingly.

The smartphone offers dual-SIM capability with dual standby, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB). The only downside is the fact that it does not come with FM Radio function, which is another feature that smartphone users in India are looking for in a new device.

Nevertheless, Asus Zenfone 5 is packed with good enough features to make customers forget it lacks FM Radio. The smartphone is equipped with a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor, a PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone also sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating for extra protection.

On the back, the Zenfone 5 boasts an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. There’s also a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front for video calls and selfies.

Asus Zenfone 5 will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which might be another downside of the high-end smartphone.

Luckily, Asus confirmed that the Zenfone 5 would receive an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update at some point, but no exact release date has been announced yet. Stay tuned for more updates on Zenfone 5’s availability in India.
