The Zenfone lineup of budget-friendly smartphones was officially unveiled back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 trade fair.

They were initially confirmed to arrive in China on April 11, but it looks like Asus has decided to go with a bigger launch, so the company has announced that all three smartphones in the Zenfone family will be available in South-East Asia beginning next month.

Aside from being available in China and Taiwan, AndroidOS reports that Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 will be available in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam in the coming months. The first country to get one of the three budget-friendly Android smartphones is Singapore.

Apparently, Asus has decided to bring the Zenfone 5 in Singapore in May, followed soon by Zenfone 4 and 6, which will be released a few weeks later.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling when exactly the Zenfone smartphones will be available for purchase in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, but we expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks.

When it comes to pricing, Asus has announced that Zenfone 4 will launch in Indonesia for 1,099,000 rupiah ($95 / €70) and Malaysia for RM299 ($90 / €65) outright.

Zenfone 5 will cost 2,099,000 rupiah ($180 / €130) in Indonesia and RM 599 ($185 / €135) in Malaysia, while the most expensive of the three, Zenfone 6, will go on sale for 3,099,000 rupiah ($270 / €195) in Indonesia and RM 899 ($275 / €200) in Malaysia.

In Singapore, the Zenfone 5 will be available for purchase next month for $250 (€180) outright, but we don’t have any details on Zenfone 4 and 6 pricing options yet.

All Zenfone family smartphones are equipped with Intel processors and run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating systems out of the box.

According to Asus, the Zenfone smartphones will eventually receive an upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform, though no details on the exact release date have been unveiled yet.

It’s also worth mentioning that they offer dual-SIM support and pack front-facing cameras for video calls. The main differences between the three are the display, CPU, camera and memory.

As the name suggests, Zenfone 4 sports a 4-inch display, while Zenfone 5 has a 5-inch touchscreen and the better-featured of the three boasts a huge 6-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display.

On the inside, the former packs a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, while Zenfone 5 is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 2GHz, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

Zenfone 6 is equipped with the same 2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 processor, but packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. Stay tuned for more updates on the Zenfone smartphones’ availability in South-East Asia.
