Asus is aiming pretty high these days. Maybe they're thinking that after the success they've had with p965/975x motherboards, they could do the same with more exotic yet powerful solutions coming from the outsiders. First, we have "Striker Extreme" based upon Nvidia
680i chipset, which has already proven to be quite a success especially when concerning overclocking capabilities, exceeding in some cases the results produced by motherboards with INTEL chipsets.
And if they will produce Nvidia motherboards for INTEL CPUs, why shouldn't they produce boards with DAAMIT hearts?
You remember DAAMIT don't you? Well, just in case you don't, you can merge the abbreviations AMD and Ati into a single word and then play with the order of the letters. And you'll get DAAMIT. The first (and maybe also the last) chipset coming from AMD's camp and targeted at INTEL will come out under the name RD600. DFI boys have already announced a product based upon RD600 and it seems Asus will do the same. Moreover, Asus officials have declared that they are planning to release their product earlier than DFI's (late December) and that it will maybe see the light in the last week of November.
That's good news since RD600 may prove even faster than 680i. But I sincerely hope it will also come with overclocking friendly BIOS since many Ati chipsets fell short at this category. You may remember for instance some Sapphire implementations that were awful when talking about the BIOS, although they were quite potent when it came to raising the speed of the CPU. As for the RD600, I trust Asus.
