Asus has just pulled out of the bag a new 10.1-inch tablet offering for the home-based Taiwanese market, trying to keep up with the competition coming from other industry giants like Samsung and Apple.

The slate has been baptized the Transformer Pad TF701T and boasts a shiny Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor and an amazing display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. It’s definitely not your average gizmo.

Asus doesn’t have a rich 10-inch tablet portfolio, with such slates currently making up 20% of the overall tablet shipments. The remaining 80% are accounted by 7- to 9-inch models like the MeMo Pad HD 7.

DigiTimes reports that Asus plans on releasing the 10-incher T100 tablet later this month, in which the company will embed an Intel Bay Trail-T processor and Windows 8.1

Latest news has also indicated that Asus might not be taking up the manufacturing of the Nexus 7 tablet. Instead, it will switch to the production camp for the Nexus 10.

The new convertible 32 GB Transformer Pad TF701T will be available in Taiwan for $537 / €369. A keyboard docking base and a cover for it are also sold separately.
