Later than thought, but soon after it becomes available

Asus’ Transformer Prime update to the fourth iteration of Google's Android mobile operating system, known as Ice Cream Sandwich, will arrive in January of 2012.

The news comes via Digital Versus publication that cites its own sources inside Asus.

Since Android 4.0 won’t be ready for the initial December 19 release of the Prime, the tablets that will be shipped on this date and until the port is finalized come with Android 3.2 pre-installed.

However, updating the tablet to ICS should be simple enough as this will happen automatically over-the-air once Asus releases it.

For those of you in need of a quick reminder, Asus’ Transformer Prime 10.1-inch tablet is powered by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chip and can pack either 32 or 64 GB of storage, while also featuring an 8MP snapper and a battery pack capable of delivering 12 hours of battery life.
