Starting today, Asus customers in the US who pre-ordered the Transformer Prime from one of the retailers that had the tablet listed were expected to receive their orders, but it now seems like at least some of these stores have postponed their shipments, including Amazon and Best Buy.

According to engadget, who has received a handful of tips from its readers this morning, Best Buy has been sending out e-mail to those who pre-ordered the tablet this week to inform them that shipments were back-ordered.

This delay is expected to last between one and two weeks, meaning that customers won’t receive their Prime until after Christmas.

Customers who have pre-ordered the Asus tablet from Best Buy have the option of cancelling their orders, replace it with a similar device, or search for the Prime at one of the retailer’s brick and mortar locations.

However, the last option seems to be a dead end, as a customer service rep told engadget that none of the Best Buy stores have the tablet in stock.

Amazon also seems to have some issues with the availability of the Transformer Prime, as some of its customers have received e-mails informing than that their orders were "inadvertently canceled."

These clients have the option of pre-ordering the tablet today and will also receive a $10 gift card to make up for the inconvenience.

When contacted by engadget to detail the Prime’s delivery status, Asus US sent out the following response:

“We started filling the pipelines this past week and will continue to do so on an almost daily basis this coming week, although any shipments to the partners after Wednesday will probably mean availability the following week based on logistics.

“But we expect the inventory pipeline to be full by the first of the year. The orders shipped this past week and starting this week will cover the pre-order allocations and then start allowing online or in-store availability.”

Right now, it seems like we’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out, but it appears that not all those of you who pre-ordered the Transformer Prime will get it in time for Christmas.

It's unfortunate that with all the hype, ASUS can't deliver. They need to learn from Apple.

I reserved mine on 12/1 from BB and got screwed with a backorder notice. what really upsets me is that for two weeks it showed a status of being released the 12/18/2011 and on that day did it finally change to backorder. shady if you ask me.

Update- I pre-ordered from Tiger Direct on 11-30-11 and received notification from the company at 6:21am today that the eee Prime tablet was being shipped (keyboard still backordered). Missed Xmas gift time (which stinks) but at least will get first week of Jan 2012.
