Asus Transformer Prime Runs Ubuntu Linux, Video Included

Asus may ship the Transformer Prime with a locked bootloader, but this hasn’t stopped hackers from running Ubuntu Linux on the 10.1-inch tablet.

As always, this Android hack came our way via the XDA Forums, where a user going by the name of Zedomax created a video demoing Ubuntu running on the Prime, together with a step-by-step tutorial that explains how to install the OS on the Asus tablet.

As you can certainly see, the GUI is quite slow since VNC is used to connect to Ubuntu from within Android, but the command line is working quite well.

In fact, the dev says that Ubuntu on the Transformer Prime actually feels faster than on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which isn’t surprising at all considering the quad-core Tegra 3 SoC found inside the Asus tablet.
