GameStop has put to rest all the doubts that we had about the December 19 US availability date of the Asus Transformer Prime as the retailer has just announced that it will start shipping the tablet on that particular date.

Users who have bought the Prime on the company’s website should get their tablets shortly after December 19, while in-store pre-orders will be available for pickup.

Currently, GameStop’s website lists both the vanilla version of the Asus tablet as well as the version bundled together with a wireless controller as out of stock, but there’s still a chance that these will be available in stores on December 19.

At GameStop, pricing for the 32GB Transformer Prime is set at $499.99 (372 EUR), while the bundle retails for $539.98 (401.6 EUR).

Outside of the usual Asus and Android software, those who purchase the Transformer Prime from GameStop also get a selection of free games, including Shadowgun, the Kongregate Arcade app and a digital issue of Game Informer magazine.

“With increased processing speed and display performance, the Tegra 3 chip allows for even more immersive tablet gaming,” stated GameStop president, Tony Bartel.

“We are thrilled to be the first to show consumers what it can do,” concluded the company’s rep.

As many of you know, the Asus Transformer Prime is a 10.1-inch tablet powered by Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 SoC that is paired together with 1GB of RAM, an GPS, a gyroscope, SonicMaster audio and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera.

The rear 8MP resolution camera comes with auto-focus support, an f/2.4 lens, a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, and is capable of recording 1080p video.

The basic Transformer Prime model which is retailer by GameStop comes with 32GB of storage space, but users also have the option of going for a beefier 64GB version of the tablet available from other retailers.
