About two weeks ago, Asus has started selling in Europe the 1215P netbook, which was one of the company's first models in a while to come with a Linux distro pre-installed, and now the Taiwanese hardware maker has released another such netbook in Germany, the Eee PC R011PX.

This is available right now from Amazon with a price tag of just €209, making it about €40 less expensive than its Windows counterpart that is retailing for €250.

For those of you that aren't up to date with Asus' netbook offer, the Eee PC R011PX is powered by an Intel Atom N455 single-core CPU clocked at 1.66GHz, that can process a maximum of two threads simultaneously thanks to the HyperThreading technology.

The Atom processor is paired with as much as 2GB of DDR3 system memory, which is seconded by a 250GB or 320GB hard drive with 500GB of additional on-line storage space (the listed model features a 320GB HDD).

The rest of the Eee PC R011PX specs list includes WLAN 802.11 b/g/n and optional Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, a VGA webcam, a multi-format memory card reader, three USB 2.0 ports and a D-Sub video output.

The screen measures 10.1-inch in diagonal, is LED backlit, and has a native resolution of 1024x600, which is appropriate for this type of display.

Complete with the 3-cell battery pack that has an autonomy of 6 hours, the Asus Eee PC R011PX weights 1.25Kg.

For the R011PX, Asus went with the Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat disto, which is also what the Eee PC 1215P presumably uses.

Right now, we don't know if Asus plans to release more Ubuntu-powered notebooks in the wild, but all signs seem to point out that this will indeed be the case. (via Netbook News)
