Asus managed to make quite a splash with its tri-slot GTX 580 DirectCU II graphics card, but this is one company that won't rest on its laurels and recently, during the CeBIT fair which takes place right now in Hannover, Germany, Asus has introduced its new GTX 580 flagship graphics card, dubbed the Platinum Matrix.

Just like the company's previous high performance Nvidia GTX 580 solution, this too uses the DirectCu II cooler which occupies three motherboard slots, as well as 1.5GB of on-board video buffer.

However, it is here that the similarities end, as Asus has decided to go with a completely redesigned printed circuit board (PCB) for the Platinum Matrix.

This uses an advanced power delivery circuitry, that relies on a 16-phase design and should enable enthusiast to reach even higher GPU frequencies than on the “regular” GTX 580 DirectCu II (right now, the record stands at 1519MHz core).

Even more impressive, when it comes to Matrix series cards, is Asus' iTracker tuning software that allows overclockers to control all of the board's parameters, including various GPU and memory voltages, fan profiles and memory timings.

In addition, users can also customize a button on the PCB, that allows them to quickly switch the operating frequencies of the card, the board's bracket hosing another button which starts the card into a so-called “Safe Mode” to recover from failed overclocking attempts.

The GTX 580 graphics card is based on the Nvidia GF110 core that packs 512 CUDA processors, 64 texture address units, 48 ROPs and its standard clocks are set at 772MHz for the core and 1002MHz for the memory.

Sadly, the frequencies the Asus GTX 580 Platinum Matrix runs at are not revealed at this time. We also don't know the date when the card is officially released or its price tag. (via ComputerBase)
