The beta update is only available for select users

Asus launched the Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 smartphones last year in spring. They still sell very well, but they're not up to date when it comes to software.

All Zenfone smartphones released last year were powered by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. Asus promised to deliver an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update at some point, but the company did not say anything about a Lollipop upgrade.

Well, it's better not to say anything than promise something and not deliver. The good news is Asus is now testing Android 5.0 Lollipop update for all three Zenfone smartphones mentioned earlier: 3, 4 and 5.

According to AsusZenfoneBlog, the first generation of Zenfone smartphones have already started to receive the Lollipop update in Taiwan.

Only a limited number of Zenfone owners are getting the update now

However, the update is not yet available for all Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 owners. It appears that Asus is now simply testing the upgrade with a number of select users who previously registered for the beta testing.

A very limited number of these users have been selected by Asus to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and offer their feedback on its performance.

If everything goes according to plan and no major bugs are found, Android 5.0 Lollipop for Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 might be released for everyone in the next couple of weeks.

In other news, after delivering a pretty buggy Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade, Asus is now expected to launch the same Android 5.0 Lollipop update for PadFine S and the New PadFone Infinity sometime in April and June, respectively.

We will keep an eye out for any additional details on Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the first-generation Zenfone smartphones, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
