Unveiled back in May, Asus' wonder gadget Padfone, which combines a tablet and a smartphone, both running Android platform, has just been confirmed for “early 2012.”

According to Asus chairman Jonney Shih, the Padfone device will be delivered with the newly announced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

Although the exact release date has yet to be announced, Shih told ThisIsMyNext that the company is still in talks with multiple carriers and that the Q1 2012 timeframe for the Padfone release might be changed at any time.

All in all, it appears that Asus will launch the Padfone on the next few months, and the device will be available from various carriers around the world.

The Padfone concept is basically a 10-1-inch tablet that docks a 4.3-inch smartphone inside, while the latter can also power the tablet.
