Unveiled back in February at the Mobile World Congress 2012, Asus Padfone hit shelves back in June. Multiple versions of the device are currently available on the market, so customers can choose to grab the 16GB, 32GB or 64GB model.

Initially shipped with Android 4.0.3 operating system onboard, the Padfone is currently getting another Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The folks over at NotebookItalia have been tipped on the availability of the Android 4.0.4 ICS update for the Padfone users.

Although the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, it will take some time for all Padfone owners to receive it on their devices.

However, Asus also uploaded the update on its servers, so Padfone users can manually download and install software version 9.20.1.22. Check it out here.

According to the official changelog of the Android 4.0.4 ICS update for Asus Padfone, the software brings new features, important improvements and optimizations meant to enhance the overall performance of the smartphone.

Aside from brining the operating system to version Android 4.0.4, the update also includes the following changes:

- Elevate system stability and optimize the operating performance; - Optimize Dynamic Display Switch (DDS) performance; - Optimize power consumption; - Optimize Camera performance and quality; - Message / Email edit function improvement; - Group Edit; - Email update frequency, “peak time” and “Off peak time” setting feature added; - Optimize Input method; - SD card support to 64GB; - Super Note function added; - Reset the password; - Hand Writing Recognition Speed; - Device tracking and data protection support.

Even though Google has just announced the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform, we expect Asus to offer Padfone users the possibility to upgrade to the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system as soon as possible. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
