Asus announced the Padfone last year at the Mobile Word Congress (MWC), but the company stated that the tablet/phone combo would be officially introduced this year.

True to its promise, the company officially announced the Padfone last week at the MWC 2012 in Barcelona.

Aside from the tablet and phone forming the combo, Asus also unveiled an interesting stylus headset that can be used to answer calls, sketch and draw, or simply browse the menus of the tablet.

Although Asus showcased its device at the exhibition, the company did not reveal the actual release date of the Padfone. However, the folks over at Phandroid have just found out that Asus confirmed plans to release its Padfone device sometime in April.

According to Asus, details on pricing options will be available as well within the next few weeks: “PadFone will be available from April so you'll get the pricing details within a few weeks!

Customers who want to purchase the Padfone will be happy to know that Asus also included a keyboard docking station, which can be acquired separately.

Unlike the Transformer Pad Prime, the Padfone does not feature a quad-core CPU. Instead Asus included a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is manufactured by Qualcomm. In addition, it comes with an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit.

Obviously, the Padfone will be shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on board. The phone features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

On the inside, the smartphone packs 16GB (32GB) of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also an impressive 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus and LED flash, and a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video-calls.
