Asus has kept a low ground with its latest P550 smartphone model, although it is a pretty impressive device. The handset has just been approved by FCC, making it clear that a US release should be expected in the near
future.
Asus P550 runs on Windows Mobile 6, one of the most advanced operating systems, which also reveals right from the start that this is a strong smartphone. Its specifications are quite impressive, leaving only a few dissatisfactions. One of them might be that of the phone's sizes. It looks to be quite large and bulky, making it not the least comfortable in any pocket. Its shapes and design lines are also pretty basic and lack any touch of style, making this look more like a manly, powerful device and certainly not an elegant one.
There is one advantage that could come from Asus P550's large sizes, as the phone also includes a huge touchscreen that will be able to compete with many of the other evolved
smartphones out there. It will also be great for navigating through the handset's menu and watching videos at a fairly good quality.
Asus P550 works in the tri-band GSM network and also packs 3G technology through UMTS. It runs on a 570 MHz processor and also has 256 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM of onboard memory. That will surely prove to be insufficient for storing all the personal data on the phone, which makes the miniSD card slot feel like a blessing.
There is also a 2 megapixel camera for providing image captures of an average quality and nothing more. The smartphone also packs WiFi connectivity and GPS, which will best match the device's mobility.
There is no official information concerning Asus P550. The fact that it has just been spotted at FCC means that it will soon hit the US market, although details on this release are yet unknown.
