Asus announced the launch of a new optical disc drive which is designed and aimed for users needing high performance drives that can playback high definition movies and offer a complete solution for writing optical discs. The next generation of Asus DVD writer drivers is the BC-1205PT, a multi format capable drive which is able to read and write data from multiple optical discs formats like BD-ROM, DVD±R and RW as well as CD-RW, while reaching speeds up to 12X for a DVD write, 4X for dual layer DVDs and 5X for DVD-RAM discs.
As the new Asus optical drive uses the fast Serial ATA interface which provides high speed data transferring rates, up to five times more faster when compared with the old DMA ATA 33 interface.

The new Asus optical drive is a versatile piece of hardware as it offers support for the most popular file formats that are currently found on the market. As the drive supports the dual format of DVD-Writeable/ Rewriteable and DVD+Writeable/ Rewriteable discs, BC-1205PT is able to create discs which can be played on most DVD-ROM drives and DVD players. A number of unique and patented Asus technologies and innovations are found implemented in this new optical drive like the DDSS II, which stands for Double Dynamic Suspension System II. This technology is a patented anti vibration system designed to minimize the effects of the spindle motor as well as minimizing the resonance between the different components inside a typical computer case. Because of the DDSS II implementation which stabilizes the pick-up head both horizontally and vertically, the drive can better track the optical discs while reducing vibrations as well as noise.

Another Asus technology used by the BC-1205PT optical drive is the Liquid Crystal Tilt, LCT for short, which increases the accuracy of the pick up head during recording or playback sessions. This technology is especially useful when dealing with uneven and scratched discs, allowing users to experience few to none skipping and interruptions. The Smart Laser Driver from Asus is used to combine the strategy circuit into the laser driver of the optical processing unit which is used to correct any data or clock irregularities without affecting the recording quality. The new Asus BC-1205PT optical drive is equipped with 4MB of cache memory for increase data storage capacity which directly translates into a smaller chance to damage a writing disc even when the entire computer system is under heavy load.
