Asus has announced that it is on its way to launch a new series of motherboards that will feature data security and safety technologies. Some of these features are already available on Asustek's P5Q series and on other motherboards as well. Electrostatic Discharge Protection and Overcurrent Protection for safeguarding users are included among these features, as well as the ASUS Data Guardian (TPM) and Drive Xpert for data security and backup.

With the Electrostatic Discharge Protection (ESD) feature, users are
safeguarded from crashing their systems or worse through passing accumulated electrostatic charge to the system. People may become charged with an electrical static charge when walking on carpets and rugs, as they're leaving cars, or when they're removing certain types of plastic packaging. These electrical charges may be as high as a few kilovolts at times, and when users make contact with an electronic device, they are transmitted to the device through fingers, making the system crash or damaging internal components.

The EU (European Union) required testing for static discharge tolerance for the first time, thus creating a set of standards of protection with strict rules. Asustek's new motherboards pass the EU strict static electricity standards. These motherboards have been designed to provide protection against static discharges, the most common scenarios including the front USB ports, which are now protected against them.

The Overcurrent Protection for Safe Computing feature offers protection against amperage ratings that exceed the current of an external device or any other active components in a circuit. When connected, any external device may create an overcurrent that can seriously damage the device or the motherboard. Asus' motherboards feature an installed circuit acting like fuses do, with circuit breakers that detect overcurrents and voltage fluctuations that could inflict damage to the internal components and thus protecting your computer.

Data security protection is provided via Asus Data Guardian (TPM support). It creates a virtual folder stored on a USB drive and is protected by an encrypted key. Data can be stored safely without fear of unauthorized access.

Data backup can be easily run via the Drive Xpert feature provided by Asus. Most of the time, users prefer not to do backups when they have large amounts of data, because of the time necessary to complete the process. Drive Xpert is easy to set up and its user-friendly interface helps users backup data, manage backups or enhance hard drive transfer rates. This feature eliminates all the complex and long setup processes other backup options need, while also making things more attractive.
