Asus Intros 19-inch LCD with 1680x1050 Resolution

- Three brand new LCD monitors for really high resolutions

By: Alexandru Pancescu, Hardware Editor

Asustek Computer, better known as Asus, just announced the launch of three brand new LCD computer monitors that come as one 19-inch widescreen and two 22-inch displays. The new LCD monitors are coming with pretty high technical specifications and they are also priced at an affordable level, while being
capable of WSXGA+ native resolutions.

The 19-inch Asus widescreen monitor is the first in the world display from its size class that is able to natively support a resolution of 1680 by 1050 pixels as the mainstream computer monitors that are available in the 19-inch size format are only supporting resolutions up to 1440 by 900 pixels.

According to the news site digitimes, the 19-inch LCD is now available under the VW198S designation and apart from the high native resolution it also comes with a 3000:1 contrast ratio as well as wide viewing angles of 170 by 160 degrees. A small response time of only 5ms is also to be found among the features of this LCD computer monitor that is equipped with a D-Sub connector.

Apart from the high resolution 19-inch LCD screen, Asus introduced two 22-inch computer monitors too that are also providing native support for the 1680 by 1050 pixels resolution, while coming with the same brightness level as the 19-inch widescreen, of 300cd/m2 and with the same high contrast ratio of 3000:1. All three Asus computer monitors are supporting a color depth of 32 bits that translates into a total number of colors of 16.7 million.

Unlike the 19-inch product, the bigger Asus monitors are coming with faster response times of only 2ms, while keeping the same wide viewing angles of 170 by 160 degrees and supporting the D-Sub connectivity interface as well as the HDCP protocol in the case of the VW222U model, which makes it very well suited for the role of a multimedia computer monitor as its is able to display most popular formats in use today.
