Asus' ROG series notebooks have made a name for themselves in the hearts of gamers everywhere, so many of the company's US buyers will be glad to hear that the G74SX series has now finally become available in the US, with prices starting at $1,499.99.

The G74SX is part of the company's Republic of Gamers product line which uses high-end hardware components and targets gaming affectionados.

As a result, the notebook is powered by Intel second-generation Core processors (based on the Sandy Bridge architecture) paired together with 8GB of DDR3 memory (four DIMM banks are available) and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M dedicated graphics card with 3GB of GDDR5 video buffer.

This GPU is based on the GF114 core and packs 384 stream processors, 64 texturing units, 32 ROPs, making it one of the fastest mobile graphics cards available from Nvidia's camp.

The Asus notebook can be configured with two different 17.3-inch display options, one featuring support for 120Hz refresh rates, but the units that have begun selling in the US are only available with the regular Full HD panel.

As far as storage is concerned, the notebook supports two HDD, SSD or hybrid disk drives that can provide a total capacity of 1.5TB. A Blu-ray drive is available as an upgrade over the standard DVD burner.

Just as it was the case with the previous G73SW, the notebook also features SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity, an HDMI 1.4a port (as well as various other video outputs), and S/PDIF digital audio out.

Design wise, Asus's G74SX series uses the same dark gray theme as all the other G7x series models and it features a backlit keyboard great for LAN parties and mid-night gaming sessions.

The cheapest version of the ROG G74SX is priced at $1,499.99 and features a 750GB 7200RPM hard drive and a DVD burner. Going for a Blu-ray drive and for 1.5TB of storage raises the price to $1,799.99. (via TechReport)
