As expected, Asus has officially launched the Fonepad tablet in India and has confirmed that the slate will be available for purchase beginning April 30.

Android enthusiasts and fans of Google’s mobile platform that are looking for a tablet with voice calling may want to take the Fonepad into consideration.

According to fonearena, Asus Fonepad will be available for purchase in Titanium Gray and Champagne Gold for only Rs 15,999 outright, which is about $295 or €225.

Although the tablet does not offer dual-SIM capability like other Indian slates that have been recently launched on the market, the Fonepad is an excellent alternative to more expensive 7-inch tablets.

Asus Fonepad comes with microSIM support and sports a more than decent 7.0-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that has 800 x 1280 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

The tablet will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but it won’t come as surprise if Asus offers an Android 4.2 upgrade later on.

Software-wise, it comes pre-loaded with lots of Asus services and apps, including Asus Launcher, MyLibrary, File Manager, SuperNote Lite, App Backup, and App Locker.

On the inside, the Fonepad is equipped with a 1.2GHz single-core Intel Atom Z2420 processor, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

The tablet comes with 5GB life time Asus Webstorage space for free, along with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

It is also worth mentioning that the Fonepad packs a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back with autofocus and video recording, as well as a secondary 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

Asus Fonepad is powered by a non-removable 4270 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 9 hours of talk time.
