After more than a year has passed since the official introduction of the Eee PC T101MT, Asus has decided to update its convertible tablet to feature Intel's recently released Atom N570 dual core chip.

This is the fastest chip in the Intel Atom chip line and packs two processing cores that are clocked at 1.66GHz and backed up by the Hyper Threading technology that enables the CPU to process up to four threads simultaneously.

Outside of the increased operating speed, the chip doesn't differ too much from Intel's other dual-core Atom processors as it features 1MB of Level 2 cache, an integrated graphics controller and has a TDP of 8.5W.

The new Atom N570 CPU will take the place of the single core 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 that was used in the Eee PC T101MT ever since its introduction.

The rest of the hardware configuration hasn't been affected by this change and the netbook still features 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard disk drive, as well as a 4 or 6 cell battery pack.

In addition, the Eee PC T101MT also sports 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, a 0.3MP webcam, an HD audio codec paired with stereo speakers and can even be fitted with an optional 3G modem.

A closer examination also reveals three USB 2.0 ports, a card reader that supports a wide variety of storage media, two audio jacks for mic-in and headphones out and a VGA video output.

This can be used for outputting video to a larger display when the 10.1-inch LED backlit touchscreen, that features a native resolution of 1024x600, proves to be too small.

The refreshed Asus Eee PC T101MT was unveiled during an event held in Italy where the company said that the netbook will become available in mid-April for about 499 Euros. (via Liliputing)
