Computer maker Asus might step into the Windows Phone 7 segment in the near future, with the first device from the company to run under the new mobile operating system making an official appearance over at FCC.

Although the company announced a while ago that the Garmin-Asus joint venture won't bring a new device to the market, it hasn't retired from the mobile phone market, it seems.

As some of the latest reports around the web note, the Asus E600 appeared at FCC a while ago, and that some more documentation was added to the filing recently.

Asus' device was spotted before into the wild as the development phone on which Microsoft tested the Windows Phone 7 platform in its early stages this year, and it can be seen in the video embedded at the bottom of this article too.

Moreover, some info on what the handset would sport also emerged, suggesting that we're to expect a pretty sleek device being launched with Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 OS on board.

The mobile phone would include a touchscreen display of about 4 inches in diagonal, along with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash on the back, and with a 1300mAh battery inside.

In the US, the new device might make an appearance on AT&T's airwaves, as it features support for 850/1900 MHz bands. Moreover, it was spotted on DslReports speed test running at 3G speeds on AT&T’s network.

The mobile phone made its first live appearance in February this year during the MWC conference in Barcelona, and, although the Garmin-Asus joint venture does not exist anymore, it can still be seen at FCC with this branding.

Unfortunately, there are no specific details available on when would Asus plan on making the handset available for purchase. Hopefully, that won't happen too far in the future, as the Windows Phone 7 platform does need some more handsets to represent it on shelves.
