We are well accustomed with seeing all sort of weird hardware make its appearance at high-profile shows such as Computex, but Asus' Danushi Bay concept motherboard, that pairs together an LGA 2011 socket with an LGA 1366 socket, is one of the strangest products to make its appearance in the last few years.

Asus didn't reveal any other information outside of a picture of the concept board, but from what we can tell Danushi Bay packs both an Intel X58 and an Intel X79 chipset.

The first one controls the LGA 1366 socket, while the latter is used for the LGA 2011 CPU, and the whole idea of the board is to ease the transition process from Nehalem to Sandy Bridge-E.

“The Danshui Bay concept motherboard comes with 2 CPU sockets, one 2011 and the other 1366. It can fully utilize your Intel Gulftown CPU when upgrading to the new platform.

“The Intel Gulftown CPUs offers great overclocking capability while the next generation CPU is better in multi-threaded computing. Combined, you can take advantage of both with the Danshui Bay motherboard,” reads the Asus sticker placed on the board.

We don't know if Asus managed to come up with some sort of technology to make the two processors work together, but, at this point in time, this seems highly unlikely.

Judging from the picture provided, the Danushi Bay motherboard supports both tri-channel and quad-channel memory (depending on the CPU used), packs no less than 22 SATA storage ports, and also includes a BIOS debug LCD.

The X79 Express chipset will be made official by Intel in the forth quarter of 2011, together with the company's high-performance Sandy-Bridge-E processors.

As is the case with many concept products, it's impossible to say if Asus' Danushi Bay ever sees the light of day. (via Guru3D)
