The upgrade will also include an updated Zen user interface

Asus has tried to offer its customers major updates on time and as bug-free as possible, but lately, the company seems out of sync and lots of its products are way behind regarding their software.

There have been lots of rumors in the last couple of months that Asus does not plan to offer the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade to a big chunk of their high-end devices, but, thankfully, these rumors were not accurate at all.

Although this will happen later than it should, at least some Asus users will be getting the KitKat upgrade this year. Not all of them of course, but those who own a PadFone 2, PadFone Infinity or the New PadFone Infinity will definitely get it.

At least that’s what Asus announced today in a short statement posted on its official website. According to this statement, the company is already working to bring Android 4.4 KitKat updates to these three smartphones that we have mentioned earlier.

Unfortunately, there are a lot more that have yet to receive the update, but we should not rule out the possibility of Asus making additional announcements regarding the KitKat upgrade.

Until then, Asus stated that Android 4.4 KitKat would be available for download for PadFone 2, PadFone Infinity (Asia & Russia)/ PadFone A80 (Europe) and New PadFone Infinity models in the following months.

According to Asus, PadFone 2 and PadFone Infinity (Asia & Russia)/ PadFone A80 (Europe) will receive the Android 4.4 update by the end of Q2, 2014. Asus New PadFone Infinity devices should get the same upgrade sometime in Q3, 2014.

Keep in mind though that these are only estimates, so we expect more details from Asus, which the company confirmed would be provided “at a later date.”

Asus wasn’t too specific on what version of KitKat these devices would receive, but we suspect they will be upgraded to Android 4.4.2, otherwise it doesn’t make sense.

One other thing that Asus confirmed is the fact that these major updates will also contain its new ZenUI user interface, which has recently been included in the ZenFone series of smartphones and Padfone Mini.

The ZenUI has been specifically designed to offer a new visual theme for Asus devices and to be more efficient. The new user interface includes modern “flat” icons, bright color themes, interesting animations, more ringtones and notification sounds, as well as a much cleaner layout.
