Asus announced the launch of a new line of high performance optical drives which features the DRW-2014 L1T internal DVD and CD rewriter. This new internal disc burner computer hardware part also is fully compliant with the latest specifications of the LightScribe technology allowing users to select and draw their own customized labels.

Unlike most currently used optical drives the Asus DRW-2014 L1T supports high speed data transfers, reaching speeds up to 20X DVD?R for write operations, 8X DVD?R and 14X DVD-RAM for read operations and because all those optical drives come equipped with a faster Serial ATA interface, users may expect much increased data transferring speeds over the older Parallel ATA's interface capabilities. Apart from high data transfer speeds the new Asus optical drives comes prepared for all popular disc formats available including the DVD-Writeable /Rewriteable and DVD+Writeable /Rewriteable mediums. Because it supports the LightScribe technology, the internal Asus DVD and CD burner provides users with many options related to labeling their discs. According to the Asus Web page dedicated to the DRW-2014 L1T, "the LightScribe technology is comprised of three parts: the DRW-2014 L1T Drive, LightScribe-compatible colored discs and LightScribe enabled burning software. After the data has been burnt onto the disc, users only have to flip the disc over to write the graphic and text on the label side ? providing professional-grade labels."

A number of innovative Asus technologies also found their way into the new internal optical drive. The innovative QuieTrack technology is used to level the drive operational noise while increasing stability. The Airflow Field Modification technology, AFFM for short, enables the drive to balance the disc against the inside airflow in order to obtain a stable and quiet operation while the FlextraLink technology prevents buffer under run errors by maintaining a constant data stream or when that is not possible by stopping the writing process until data becomes available again.

Another technology, FlextraSpeed, monitors and determines the supported recording speeds by the optical disc in order to ensure the best attainable quality. Finally, Auto Vibration Reducing System (AVRS for short) is employed to reduce vibrations and resonance between internal and external components enabling the Asus DRW-2014 L1T drive operate quietly.
