Asus has recently announced the launch of a new mobile phone, one that will come under its own name, the Asus P835, as many representatives of Asus and Garmin informed a while ago about the forming of a strategic alliance for the development, manufacturing and distribution of mobile phones. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week, the two companies introduced new handsets that would bear the alliance's brand name, yet the new device has been mentioned by Asus alone.

According to the computer maker, the new Asus P835 has been developed for “business-savvy professionals,” who are expected to appreciate the device's 3.5 inch touchscreen display, which is able to deliver a 800 x 480 pixel resolution. At the same time, the new handset comes powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.

The newly-introduced Asus P835 includes a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), a tri band UMTS/HSPA connectivity (900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz) that can provide download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and uploads of up to 2 Mbps, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and USB 2.0 connectivity.

The handset is powered by a Qualcomm 7201A 528MHz processor and packs 288MB SDRAM, 256MB ROM, 4GB of internal memory and a MicroSDHC card slot for additional storage space. Other features of the device include the On-screen QWERTY keyboard, A-GPS, Opera Mobile, and a 5 Megapixel photo snapper with auto focus.

The new mobile phone measures 115 x 59 x 13.8 mm and weighs 148 grams. Its battery is able to provide a talk time of up to 6 hours on 3G networks and 7 hours on 2G networks, as well as a standby time of up to 350 hours. For the time being, the computer maker hasn't provided information as to when the new Asus P835 will come to the market, nor what price tag it will feature, yet the handset is expected to be released in the next several months.
