A short while after a US-based online retailer has listed the Eee PC X101 for pre-order on its website, Asus has announced that the $200 MeeGo running netbook will arrive in the States in August, while the company's European customers will get the machine in September.

Like most other netbooks developed to run the MeeGo operating system, at the heart of Asus' creation stands some very basic hardware, in this case the Intel's N435 processor, which is the slowest Atom Pine Trail CPU to be released until now.

The N435 manages to get this “distinction” by coming with a single 1.33GHz core that is seconded by 512KB of L2 cache.

The rest of its features are pretty much standard for a Pine Trail CPU and includes Hyper-Threading support as well as an integrated graphics core that is used to drive the 10.1-inch display with a 1024x600 resolution used in the Eee PC X101.

Taking a look at the remaining specifications, we get to see that the X101 is just as lackluster as the Atom CPU used to power it, since the netbook packs just 1GB of system memory and a petite 8GB solid state drive as well as the standard 802.11n Wi-Fi, low-res webcam, and optional Bluetooth 3.0.

All of these, together with a 3-cell battery, are packed inside a thin chassis that measures no more than 17.6mm at its thickest point and weights just 950g.

In the US, the MeeGo running Eee PC X101 is already available for pre-order with prices starting as low as $198.73 US. The notebook's European price is not known yet, but this will be available in red, white and brown.

Asus also prepares to launch a version of the X101 that will run the Windows 7 Starter operating system, but this will cost $250 US. (via Bright Side of News)
