Such a weapon would take a very long time to deploy

Former NASA astronaut and current chairman of the B612 Foundation, Rusty Schweickart, says that the chances of any rogue organization or nation using asteroids or meteorites to rain down death and destruction on its enemies are extremely remote.

The expert believes that space rocks may terribly be ineffective weapons. In addition, they can only be deployed very rarely, since not many are available to begin with. Controlling them is also another matter, since a space rock cannot be shepherd through the atmosphere at will.

A recent announcement made at a conference – which argued that a space rock could be removed from space and brought to Earth's orbit within 10 years with existing technologies – sparked fears and controversies as to how this capability may be used for evil, Space reports.
