Astaro, the maker of enterprise-level gateways that enhance security and provide traffic filtering, has just released Astaro Security Gateway 7.500, a version that includes many new features and enhancements. Unlike many other computer software creators, Astaro does listen to customer requests, that's why in this latest incrementation of its flagship product you will find a new Intrusion Protection Engine, Real-Time Bandwidth Monitoring, transparent HTTP proxy support that features captive authentication portal and even the ability to manipulate black or whitelists.

In Astaro Security Gateway 7.500 there are 50 new features, counting for more than 700 changes altogether, and making for quite a large release announcement. Among the big modifications you will find intrusion protection performance enhancements, featuring new version of the IPS engine and enhanced multiprocessor support, real-time bandwidth monitorization, with a better graphical representation and detailed overviews, a new Import/Export widget, giving you the ability to work with manual lists for many features/fields, like blacklists, marked by green up/down arrows, transparent authentication support for Web Security, which allows users to authenticate by using a Portal-Style page, without changing their network settings, and enables username-based tracking and reporting.

Furthermore, cloned objects support was enabled in many places (Definitions, Services, some Profiles/Actions), along with extended network security reporting, featuring packet Filter/Firewall and IM/P2P reports that are more detailed, reputation support for Web Security, gathering data from trustedsource.org, which adds an additional check when allowing sites to be visited based on their degree of evil and even DHCP improvements, automatically mapping a current lease to a static assignment and limiting DHCP leases to those with static assignments only. Also, the DHCP lease time is now configurable, and the servers retain their configuration when enabled/disabled, and the Multicast routing daemon now features PIM-SM routing support.
