Shakur killed a police officer in New Jersey in the 70s

The FBI have added a woman to their most-wanted terrorists list, for the first time in history. Assata Shakur has been missing since the 70s, and authorities have upped the bounty for capturing her.

Black Panther political activist Assata Shakur, also involved in the Black Liberation Movement was born Joanne Chesimard. She was arrested for fatally shooting a police officer in New Jersey and convicted in 1973.

Six years after being jailed she escaped and exiled herself to Cuba, where she was granted political asylum.

According to Democracy Now, the $1 million (€760k) reward on her head, offered by the FBI has now been doubled with an additional $1 million (€760k) by New Jersey officials. Her photo is featured above this post.

"I am a 20th century escaped slave. Because of government persecution, I was left with no other choice than to flee from the political repression, racism and violence that dominate the U.S. government’s policy towards people of color," she once said.
