Jeffrey Yohalem, one of the main writers working on the Assassin's Creed franchise at Ubisoft, says that his team has been teasing the coming announcement about Unity since the launch of Brotherhood, which took place in 2010.

In a message on his official Twitter feed, the developer explains that the ending sequence for the title included the Phrygian cap, which has long been seen as a symbol of the French Revolution.

The team also included the Eye of Providence in order to clue players into the setting for Assassin's Creed 3.

Yohalem has not offered any details of the kind of gameplay experience that fans of the series should expect to see in the coming Unity.

The title was officially announced by Ubisoft after images taken from it were leaked and will be launched before the end of the year on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The new title will take place during the French Revolution and the name of the new protagonist will be Arno.

Ubisoft says that the experience has been in development for more than three years and that it will include a number of new movement and combat mechanics for gamers to use as they once more explore the deep lore of Assassin's Creed.
